The lunch program at Walden is focused on providing flavorful food options that cater to a broad range of palates and dietary needs. We believe school lunches don't have to be bland to appeal to picky eaters; vigorous, maturing minds need exciting meal options that ultimately promote a conscientious attention to health and appreciation of multicultural taste. In choosing ingredients, quality is our first priority and that's why every product is carefully selected by our professional in-house chef to craft meals that include the essential nourishment every growing child needs.

Meet the Chef

Born and raised in Louisville, Shunnarah earned degrees in the culinary arts and hospitality management at Sullivan University before landing his first cooking job at an assisted living facility. “I haven’t looked back since,” he says. To date, he has several years of experience cooking for retirement communities, as well as restaurants. After five years, he had the opportunity to lead his own kitchen at St. Vincent De Paul, a local community soup kitchen.

From there Chef Charlie went on to work in school food, working with the National School Lunch program, as well as the Kentucky Nutrition Association, feeding kids who attended the school as part of the JCPS school system and Centerstone. In his spare time, he does private events in an open kitchen setting in New Albany specializing in the cuisine of his Middle Eastern heritage, Arabic, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern foods.
